EXCELLENT Based on 98 reviews Posted on Google Rosanagh DinsdaleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What can I say! We had Alex and his wonderful team do the bar for our wedding this weekend and it was just fabulous! From the very start Alex was so easy to communicate with, very professional and totally on the ball with everything. No detail went unnoticed and there was a great selection of drinks to be offered. The staff on the night really went above & beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. The horse shoe bar was perfect to accommodate the amount of guests we had and a great focal point with plenty of room for guests to gather around the bar. I would highly recommend Filly & Foal and would definitely use them again in the future 😊💫 Thank you so much!Posted on Google Sarah KaldasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the very first call, Alex was nothing short of exceptional. He embodies everything you hope for when choosing suppliers for your wedding … he was professional, creative, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our vision a reality. And wow he did!!! No question was ever too much (and I had a lot of those), no request was ever too small, and he consistently went above and beyond to help throughout the entire planning process. It never felt transactional … it felt as though he cared about our wedding just as much as we did. Putting him and Penny together was the ultimate combo - he understood exactly the atmosphere and aesthetic we wanted to create and executed it flawlessly!!! The finished result was beyond anything we could have imagined. When we walked into our venue and saw the bar setup and the drinks our jaws dropped. The cocktails were not only absolutely delicious but so so beautifully presented, and they’re still being talked about by our guests!! Everyone’s on the hunt for a margarita that beats yours Alex but we’re yet to find it!! Every detail felt considered … even down to the bright orange garnishes on the Aperol Spritz that didn’t quite suit our theme …Alex actually sourced muted garnishes to complement the styling perfectly! It sounds like such a tiny detail, but it’s exactly that level of care, thoughtfulness and pride in his work that sets him apart. And his kindness didn’t stop when the bar closed. At the end of the night, when I couldn’t find my bag, Alex was right there to help me find it. After such a long day, when he could easily have been packing up and heading home, he still took the time to make sure I was ok and we were happy! If you’re looking for a bar team that delivers not only exceptional drinks but an exceptional experience from beginning to end, I genuinely couldn’t recommend Alex and the team enough!! Thank you for helping create one of the most memorable parts of our wedding day. You exceeded every expectation and we’re so grateful!!Posted on Google Rebecca ThomasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We hired a bar for our wedding and I cannot fault them! Alex was great from the initial consultation right through to the big day. They have a great ethos, as they don't believe in putting up drink prices just because it's a wedding, so the drinks were very reasonably priced. The lady on the bar was incredible. I wish I could remember her name but the day was such a whirlwind. Everyone was saying how lovely she was and me and my maid of honour very much enjoyed going and having a chat while we were getting our drinks! Thank you so much for helping make our wedding so perfect!Posted on Google Maddy ParryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Alex at Filly & Foal is fabulous! After our first call with him we knew we were going to have a bloody great wedding! He was so helpful and was always around for a call if I needed any help or advice with anything wedding related. We had the most delicious espresso martinis! Definitely book F&F! 🫶🏻Posted on Google Anne MayoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend this company .Posted on Google Erin WoodrowTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Huge thanks to Alex and the team for being a standout part of our wedding. Alex’s communication leading up to the big day was incredible, which took so much stress off our shoulders. He worked tirelessly both before and during the wedding to ensure every detail was perfect. The day was absolutely everything we hoped for, and we are so grateful for all his hard work. Highly recommend!Posted on Google Charles Gray Dog TrainingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak highly enough about Filly and Foal. What a fantastic service they provide! I did not book them directly myself but attended a function where they were employed and was extremely impressed by the professionalism, quality of service and high level of friendly customer service. If you are thinking about using them for your event, I would not hesitate. Book them today.. they go above and beyond expectation.Posted on Google Low Barn FarmTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had the pleasure of working with Filly and Foal last summer when they supplied the drinks for a wedding on our farm. They were a lovely, friendly bar team who went above and beyond to help make the wedding a success. They offered a great selection of drinks and had a super stylish bar setup that looked fantastic on the day. I would happily recommend Filly and Foal to any couples planning their wedding who are looking for an excellent, professional bar team.Posted on Google Cas JonesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Filly & Foal were excellent from start to finish. Booking them was a piece of cake, and all through the process they were communicative, easy to deal with and professional. On the actual day of our wedding they turned up and set up without any disturbance to the day, provided high quality drinks and Alex and his staff were absolutely top notch, especially when it came to deal with inebriated guests. Their post event follow up was timely and efficient and genuinely a pleasure to deal with. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.Posted on Google OneAgencyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The process of hiring the Portabar with Filly and Foal could not have been easier. From our first interaction, Alex was warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful. The bar setup was exactly what we needed for our event, and Alex went above and beyond to support us throughout. We look forward to working with Filly and Foal again in the future.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. OUR promise to you
If you’re taking the time to read this, thank you. Planning a wedding is no small feat, and choosing a reputable cocktail bar hire company can feel overwhelming.
Our promise to you is simple: we will always be transparent and honest. We are not the cheapest cocktail bar hire in Norfolk or Suffolk, and we won’t pretend to be. There are cheaper suppliers out there, some reputable, some not, and it’s important to understand the difference.
We will never be disingenuous. If there are more cost-effective ways to achieve your wedding bar plans, we’ll outline them early in our conversations and provide advice to help you realise your vision, even if it means potentially losing a booking. The wedding world is full of wonderful people, but truthfully, it also has suppliers who are less than open.
Doing your research is essential. By understanding the process of hiring a wedding bar, you can avoid unnecessary stress and enjoy your big day with confidence.
If you’re unsure about any part of the cocktail bar hire process. We’re here to help every step of the way. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, read our reviews or book a free mobile bar hire consultation.
Hire Costs
Our hire costs
We like to keep things simple; your coktail bar hire fee is a one-off cost that takes care of everything. The fee is based on events within 50 miles of our base in Norfolk and covers
- Securing your date and chosen bar
- Glassware hire
- Eco glassware, if desired/required
- Bar staff, mixologists and bar manager
- Ice (lots of ice) and garnishes
- Premium cocktail menus
- No travel fees for events within 50 miles
- £50 bridal tab for our cash/card bar
- Card/contactless with Apple/Google Pay
- Planning consultations & site visits
There are no hidden costs; we are always transparent with our pricing.
For a standard cash bar service (selling to guests), we sometimes, but not always, have a minimum spend.
A minimum spend is a pre-agreed amount that the bar is expected to take in sales during the event.
This is usually determined by factors such as:
- Guest attendance
- Bar operating times
- Whether all drink sales will come solely from the bar service
If a minimum spend applies, we will always make this clear upfront.
Importantly, we never take the full minimum spend upfront. Instead, we simply take a holding deposit, which is returned once the minimum spend has been reached.
If there is any shortfall, we provide a full breakdown of sales. In reality, it is very rare for a minimum spend not to be reached.
Some companies require the minimum spend to be paid in full upfront and will refund you if the bar reaches the agreed sales on the day. We do not operate in this way.
The only additional cost would be if you decided to add any prepaid drink packages; these are always optional.
Hire process
Advice & tip for mobile bar hire
Planning a wedding is no small feat, and choosing a cocktail bar hire company can sometimes feel overwhelming. We understand that there can be a lot of new terminology, drink options, and choices to navigate along the way.
The first step is to look at the bar styles you like and consider what will best suit the overall style of your event. It’s also important to think about how the bar will operate on your wedding day and how it will work in practice within the space you have available.
If you’re feeling unsure or a little overwhelmed, it’s always best to speak with us. Having attended hundreds of weddings, we’re able to offer helpful insight into what might work best for your specific plans and circumstances.
Hire types can be confusing, and you may hear lots of different terminology, such as cash bars, card bars, pay bars, dry hire, hybrid hire, and more.
There are several different options available, each with its own advantages and considerations.
We’ve broken down the most common formats below to help you understand what might work best for your event.
Cash / Card Bar
(also called a “Pay Bar”)
This is a bar service where guests purchase their own drinks. It’s the most straightforward and commonly used hire type.
In most cases, the only cost involved is a bar hire fee and sometimes though not always a minimum spend commitment.
A minimum spend is a pre-agreed amount that the bar is expected to take in sales during the event. We occasionally apply a minimum spend, but not always.
This is usually determined by factors such as:
- Guest attendance
- Bar operating times
- Whether all drink sales will come solely from the bar service
If a minimum spend does apply, we will always make this clear at the earliest opportunity.
Importantly, we never take the full minimum spend upfront. Instead, we simply take a holding deposit, which is returned once the minimum spend has been exceeded.
If there is any shortfall, we provide a full breakdown of sales. In reality, it is very rare for a minimum spend not to be reached.
Other companies require this amount to be paid in full upfront and will refund you if the bar reaches the agreed sales on the day.
Prepaid or Open Bars
(referred to as “Putting Money Behind the Bar”)
A prepaid or open bar is ideal for hosts who prefer guests not to pay for drinks during the event. With this option, the cost of drinks is covered in advance by the host.
There are typically two approaches:
Money Behind the Bar
- You set a pre-agreed amount to cover drink costs, and drinks are served until that amount is reached.
Price Per Head
- You pay a fixed price per guest to provide complimentary drinks throughout the event.
This format creates a seamless experience for guests and removes the need for them to pay individually. However, it is often the most expensive way to provide a bar service.
Dry Hire
Dry hire is ideal for clients who prefer to supply their own alcohol. With this option, we provide the bar setup and professional staff, while you provide the drinks for the event.
Because each event is different, dry hire packages are always tailored and quoted individually.
While this option may initially seem more affordable, it can sometimes become costly as the bar company may need to account for the loss of drink sales through additional hire costs or minimum spend requirements.
We always aim to be transparent and in some cases there may actually be more cost-effective ways to achieve the same result, which we’re always happy to discuss with you.
Hybrid Hire
(Sometimes referred to as “Mix & Match” Hire)
Sometimes an event doesn’t fit neatly into one specific bar format. For these occasions, we offer a hybrid or bespoke hire option.
This allows us to create a package tailored specifically to your event.
For example, you may wish to:
- Provide your own wine for the tables
- Supply champagne for the toasts
- Leave us to manage arrival drinks, cocktail hour, and the evening bar
Whatever your plans, we can design a flexible package that works perfectly for your event
Every event is unique. You’ll have your favourite drinks, and what works perfectly at one wedding may not necessarily work at another. Our menus are designed to be flexible. For our cash/card bars we do offer a standard menu, but you are always welcome to customise it.
You can add or remove items to create a drinks selection that feels right for you including adding your favourite cocktails for guests to purchase. When planning your bar menu, it’s also important to consider the space available at your venue. Every venue is different, and sometimes offering a smaller, well-curated menu of favourite drinks can actually work to your advantage.
A streamlined menu can help improve service speed, reduce queues at the bar, and keep guests on the dance floor maintaining the energy and atmosphere throughout the evening.
It’s also worth thinking about whether you’d like to include any bespoke drink elements for your day. These can include things such as welcome drinks, table wine, or a cocktail hour. These elements are typically prepaid in advance, and we offer a range of tried-and-tested packages to suit different tastes and wedding budgets.
Of course, if you’d prefer something more personal, we also offer the flexibility to build fully bespoke packages. So don’t be afraid to share your ideas, we’re always happy to help bring them to life.
We understand that wedding budgets can be challenging, and one of the most important things is transparency from your suppliers.
We are always upfront, we are not the cheapest bar hire in Norfolk or Suffolk, and we never hide that fact.
When comparing suppliers, it’s essential to look at what is included. For example, one company may have a minimum spend but include glassware, staff, and setup, which could save you hundreds of pounds compared to a cheaper quote with hidden costs.
Always consider all inclusions and potential extras before making a decision.
If your budget is tight, let us know in advance. We will always aim to get you maximum value and be honest if your expectations cannot be achieved.
We’ll also provide guidance on alternative options that may better suit your budget.
Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Too-good-to-be-true deals:
Some suppliers may advertise amazing prices. While tempting, these offers may not always deliver what you expect.
Reliability matters:
Check if your supplier has a proven track record, experience, and a full-time commitment to their business. Part-time or inexperienced suppliers may not be able to deliver consistently.
Commitment:
Sadly, some smaller suppliers may cancel bookings if a “better” offer comes along. A reputable, full-time supplier values their reputation and will honour every booking, regardless of future opportunities.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about the lowest price, it’s about peace of mind, reliability, and getting the experience you deserve on your wedding day.
When planning your wedding, it’s never advisable to rely solely on loose emails, WhatsApp, or Instagram messages for pricing and booking details.
Always obtain a formal, comprehensive quote from your supplier. A good quote protects both you and the supplier, ensuring clarity on costs and expectations.
Thorough quotes should include:
- Complete and accurate information.
- Clear pricing showing what’s included.
- VAT details and any other applicable taxes.
- Minimum order or spend requirements
- Expiry date or timeframe for the quote.
- Notes covering the process in detail.
Quotes give you peace of mind, making clear:
- The full costs of your booking.
- What is required to secure your booking
- When balance payments are due.
- The obligations of both the supplier and the client, so there are no surprises on the day.
If a company is reluctant to provide a formal quote and only offers vague pricing via messages, this is usually a red flag. Reputable suppliers are thorough because it protects both you and them, and ensures your wedding runs smoothly with no unexpected surprises or additional costs.
